Frito Pie

Elizabeth and I had walked all over Old Town, doing shopping, spending too much time in stores that were too hot. After we were done she offered to take me anywhere I wanted for dinner. I knew exactly where I wanted to go: home. Sometimes there is nothing better than a simple dinner and spending the evening on the couch watching TV.

On the way home it occured to me what I wanted: a Frito pie. We ducked into a store and bought a bag of Fritos and a can of chili. Back home I heated the chili, spread some chips out on a plate and topped it all with cheese. After a minute the cheese started to soften, melting slightly, and I added a couple dollops of sour cream.

It was the perfect dinner.

  2. That is the classiest looking Frito pie I've ever seen. Aren't you supposed to eat it straight from the bag??

  3. PP- do you eat that with forks, spoons, your hands, or what?? and are the fritos just regular plain old fritos? cuz i love the chili cheese fritos but the original are the bomb too.

  5. Fritos: But the whole point of the dinner was to get away from people! If you had been there it would have... well, okay, maybe just you next time. But no one else.

Ben: "Supposed to"? I dunno. I think traditionally they are served in the bag, but I've always been rather iconoclastic. (Plus I got that $4.99 plate at Cost Plus specifically to make my dishes look classy. I wouldn't want that to go to waste.)

Anon: As tempted as I was to chow on it without the use of my hands, like a dog or a pie-eating contest, I used a fork. Indeed I did use the chili-flavored Fritos, as I like those more than the regular, although neither flavor lives up to the "Texas Grill" Fritos from my teenage years. Man I miss those tasty little morsels, resplendent with grill marks that made no sense.

Anna: If you love Fritos - and I know you like chili, from your Fatburger chili cheese fries comment - I don't see any reason why you won't love this.

  7. Now you have to post a review of the Taco Bell Beefy Crunch Burrito featuring Fritos! Unless I missed that update.

Doesn't look all that appealing but hey, take one for the team!
