Three years and 730 posts ago I started this thing just as a fun way to share food pictures with friends - it had gotten to the point where I was sending out emails at least once a week and my friends Phil and Les said "Just put these all in a blog!" So I did.
To celebrate the third anniversary of it, I decided to try something I never have before: Fatburger's chili cheese fries. In scores of meals at Fatburger over the last 15 years, I was always satisfied with either the skinny fries or fat fries. I never felt the need to step it up and add chili and cheese. But this time I did.
Did I like them? Sure. But I didn't find anything special about them. The chili was lacking flavor. In Pasadena I prefer the chili cheese fries at Wolfe Burgers, Top's, Connal's and Original Tommy's. Like many things I try at Fatburger - the eponymous burger, the spicy chicken sandwich, the grilled chicken sandwich - I enjoyed trying something new... but I won't be changing my usual order of a turkey burger and fries.
Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary! When Fatburger used to be on Arroyo Parkway, years ago, they used to have hard shelled ground beef tacos that were VERY good. During their tenure at Fatburger, I actually preferred them to the very similar ones at Rick's.

ReplyDeleteNosh: Thanks brother.
ReplyDeleteStephen: I remember the Fatburger on Arroyo but I don't remember tacos. But even if I'd seen them, I doubt I would have ordered them.
Anon: I have not been this creeped out by an Asian since B.D. Wong in Father of the Bride. But thanks for the love. I think.
Congrats. And thanks to Phil and Les--what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteUmm...I agree w/Anon. For the most part, I think. I live in Oly, WA & have never sampled Pasadena food. Although I did handle the insurance for a movie co. out of Culver City (Or maybe they just filmed there, it's been a while). I appreciate that your friends like your tasty balls in their mouth. I also appreciate most of your posts & the TJ's reviews ROCK. So does Elizabeth's nail polish!!!
ReplyDeleteBryce: Well, I can't lie: a big part of my excitement was: "Wow I can't wait for Amy to make me Korean food again so I can blog about it. I'm sure it will happen any day now..."
ReplyDeleteJessica: I was in Olympia once, but I was about 11 and don't remember anything other than a really cool lightning storm. But thanks for the compliments. You know, I haven't made those balls the real way in a long time. I should do that soon.
To many more years of blogging!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday An Immovable Feast!
