Snack Time

Just a rundown of some of the things I've been snacking on in the last month:

Do you have get a craving for something and need to make it for dinner? And sometimes - as in this case - it's something you've never even made before. One day I got a craving for a lobster quesadilla, with the corn and chile (tomato-less) salsa from Trader Joe's. I got some Maine lobster tail meat, Toscano cheese, spincach, and the salsa, put it all in a tortilla, and baked it in the oven for a few minutes.

I didn't order these bar nachos, a friend of mine did, but I helped her eat them, so they belong here.

A piece of fried chicken on a roll with remoulade.

Pretty much anything is better when it's grilled in a panini press. I made myself an English muffin sandwich with salami, ham, goat cheese, pickles and mustard.

McNuggets and Popeyes horseradish sauce are such a nice match, it's a shame you can't order them that way.

I decided to try these chips because they were on sale for $1.68 at Whole Foods. The flavor promised to be "buffalo" but it was not. Still good, though.

I thought if I added Buffalo Wild Wings "Caribbean Jerk" sauce to a McChicken sandwich it would taste like a really good Jamaican jerk-style sandwich. I now see the flaw in my logic.

Am I the only one who enjoys Thanksgiving leftovers - in a sandwich the next day - more than I do Thanksgiving dinner? This sandwich was turkey, ham, red cabbage slaw, corn salad, and stuffing on white bread.

When I was kid I remember eating Lemonheads (well, I still do), Skittles, Starburst, gummy bears, and a few other things that I really liked... but never anything as cool as this: a "plunger" pop that you lick and dip in a toilet bowl full of watermelon powder. Crazy.

I found this dim sum sampler at Whole Foods and figured Why not? The dumplings and shu mai were passable, but the pork bun was - and I am not exaggerating here - the worst bun I have ever had.

Rotini with roasted garlic tomato sauce and arugula.

Elizabeth and I found this giant sandwich on sale at Ralph's and decided to split it. I cooked it on the panini press for a few minutes first, then added pickles and mustard to my half.

Trader Joe's barbecued brisket on a potato bun with slaw.

Whole Foods chicken salad was the first one I ever had that I loved, and I still do. I had this one for lunch just yesterday.

  1. The Day After Thanksgiving Sandwich is always my main goal. I love the bread on bread goodness.

  2. Wow, no wonder I haven't seen you in several days, you've been mighty busy!
Too bad the Jerk your McChicken didn't work out. That was a brilliant idea. There must be a fast-food chicken sandwich out there that will be compatible with the sauce.

  4. Bekah: Nice to know I'm not alone.

Nosh: Maybe... probably not off a value menu, though. Maybe I should request the Church's Southern-style sandwich without sauce and try that.

    Anonymous: Galco's.

  6. I love how creative you are with food, always adding sauces and different things and making things better. And I also love reading your reviews even though I live up north of you in the Santa Cruz area, yours is one of my favorite blogs to follow. Happy Holidays :)

  7. That chicken salad looks good. I've never had Whole Foods chicken salad before, I will have to remedy that.

  8. Justin,

Does your WF have a "buger station?" I got a burger from a local whole foods a while back and found it badly executed.
