Fast Food Review: McDonald's Hot 'N Spicy McChicken

One year ago I read about McDonald's Hot 'N Spicy McChicken sandwich on Grub Grade and thought it sounded good: a spicy version of the McChicken comparable to Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich, or at least the version that Wendy's used to turn out before everything they make turned so salty.

But here's the thing: apparently it isn't available in very many places. Being that the writer of that post said he found it in Texas and wasn't aware of it being anywhere else, I put it out of my mind. I'm not a big fan of Texas.

Of course last night I found myself staying in downtown San Antonio, close to a McDonald's with a sign for the Hot 'N Spicy McChicken in the window. I gave it a shot.

It was awesome. Probably the best sandwich I have ever had from McDonald's. (Not exactly a high bar, but still.) The chicken wasn't anything too special (if you're expecting anything different from McD's chicken patties, I don't know what to tell you) but the sandwich was quite spicy, a genuine pepper heat. This blows away even the old Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwiches.

Now I'm glad I couldn't get these in California when I lived four blocks from McDonald's. That would have gotten ugly.

  2. No joke - less than five minutes ago we were just getting out of bed to get ready. We're gonna walk to the Alamo within the hour. Elizabeth said "I'm gonna text [my sister] and tell her we're going to the basement of the Alamo. Do you think she'll get the reference?"

    I said "She better."

  4. I've been eating these for years in Utah, they are easily the best thing Mcdonalds makes besides the sadly missing Chicken Biscuit. They better if you get them plain it makes them spicier

  11. Thank you Justin. I am in Cali and they do now have them here. They are very tasty even if not that healthy. :) I do love them and I can see how things could get ugly if you could have and endless supply of them. giggles
