My Monday

The train to the airport at 6 AM. (Both Elizabeth and my parents offered to get me a car - even pay for it - but I like to do things my way.)

A pint of Guinness at 7:45? Well... okay.

Especially when I can watch SportsCenter and hear everyone express their astonishment that Phil Jackson isn't returning to the Lakers. (Am I the only Lakers fan who cannot stand him?)

I was trying to guess how much my two beers would cost. New York City... airport bar... I figured it would be a lot. But I still underestimated. Oh well. It's almost worth it to have a receipt time-stamped 8:28 AM.

I don't enjoy flying, but Walking Dead On Demand certainly helps.

Was there any doubt where I'd be stopping for lunch on the way to my parents' from the airport?

"I've been down the endless highway
I've passed on the solid line
Now at last I'm home to you
I feel like making up for lost time
Good to see you

Good to see you again"

I went to Taylor's before dinner and picked up three chicken breasts in a "St Augustine" marinade: wine, orange marmalade, and spices. My parents offered to take me out anywhere I wanted, but all I really wanted was to grill and use their Viking range.

I've only been able to grill a couple of times in the last 8 months, so this felt wonderful.

My parents had a box of rice pilaf in their pantry so I cooked it. (It was only average.) I sliced up zucchini and sauteed it with a lot of garlic cloves and pepper then placed Unie Kaas Parrano, one of my five favorite cheeses in the world, to melt on top.  Not a fancy dinner, but very, very good, and lots of fun to make myself.

I went to bed at 8:30 local time.

  2. breakfast brews! That is inspiring. The earliest I've ever drank was a mimosa in Vegas at Bouchon around 8:45am. Hope you had a great trip home, I know In and Out was glad to see you :-)
