Weekend Eats Part 5/5: Buffalo McChicken Sandwich

I wasn't in the mood for any cooking by the time Sunday evening came around. I just wanted something small and quick. I decided to try something I'd been thinking about for at least a month - since I discovered Tabasco's delicious Buffalo sauce. I went to McDonald's and bought a $1.19 McChicken sandwich, then took it home and slathered it with the Buffalo sauce.

It was quite good. No, it doesn't compare to my beloved Atomic Chicken Sandwich from the Dark Horse, and it really wasn't even as good as I remember the ephemeral Wendy's "flavor-dipped" sandwich being. But it was a great way to wind down the weekend, watching Sunday Night Baseball and relaxing.

I realize the contrast between cooking Prime steaks/buying fresh farmers market produce and eating a chicken sandwich from McDonald's. And I'm okay with it.

Have you tried the McChicken with McDonald's buffalo sauce?

No. I've certainly tried the McDonald's Buffalo sauce and I like it - but I like Tabasco's more.

This is completely off topic. So you're always showing pics of Hombolt Fog and praising it's awesomeness. I inquired at my local market and they had it for $24.99/lb I would love to hear an Ode to Hombolt Fog before I pass over my cash and hubby asks me what the hell I was thinking :)What makes it so great? BTW, they said it's one of their best sellers so you are not alone in your cheese adoration.

I don't think I would call that "completely off topic"... this is a blog about food and I am happy you would like my opinion. If you were asking my thoughts on the best kind of motor oil, yes, that would be strange.

I love the consistency between the layers of cheese: the outside is gooey (even more so if you let it sit and warm up) and the inside is slightly-firm. And it all tastes delicious. It complements vinaigrettes beautifully. Plus it looks really cool with the ash running through it.

Is there a cheese store near you that will cut you a small slice? Maybe a little guy in the $5 range so you can test it out?

Humboldt Fog is in a class by itself. They've re-defined goat cheese. Just try it, you'll get it.
