Lay's Chips (For Diana)

Longtime reader Diana asked me if I was going to try the new flavors of Lay's chips. I wasn't - several other websites have already done it and I didn't really think they sounded all that good. But for Diana, I decided to. In Brooklyn, however, the Walgreens were sold out.

But I managed to find them in Pasadena.

The Sriracha chips were good, but they didn't taste (to me) like Sriracha. The vinegar blast was there, which I loved, but the chili flavor was missing. It tasted more like a barbecue chip instead of spicy. I will finish the bag, but don't plan to buy any more.

I will be brief: the Chicken & Waffles chips were one of the worst things I have ever eaten. They tasted like maple syrup and nothing else, not even salt.

There is nothing else in the world quite like the ultra-buttery, ultra-cheesy garlic bread you get at restaurants, right? It's not something I would call "good" but I always end up eating a few more slices than I should. These chips come damn close to that flavor and I ate more than I should have, more than I wanted to, but I couldn't stop. I have never tasted chips with this combination of cheese and butter. (The garlic flavor was lacking but I say that about everything.)

I probably won't buy any of these again, but if I do it will be these cheesy garlic bread chips.

Can you do a giveaway like grubgrade does? I'm only asking because I can't get any of the flavors where I live. Thanks

My kid also declared the Chicken and Waffle chips the worst thing he has never eaten. Nastiness.

I thought the Chicken and Waffles tasted like a maple flavored chicken bullion cube. Sriracha was my favorite of the three.

Your blog is a such a consistent, yet random, treat. Thank you, very much!!

i second the anon above me. i can always expect something new every time i visit. i usually don't like when bloggers aren't concise with their reviews/posts, but i love the way you write about your days and how the food plays into it. also, you have the best photography out of all the food blogs i read.

Seems like there's pretty much a consensus about these. Unfortunately I haven't found the garlic bread ones in my area and they're the only ones I want to try. I also haven't seen the single serve size you found.

You must not read serious eats, esp the NY version

No kidding - or Gastronomy and Kevin Eats. All much better photography than mine.

Thank you!! I've seen the small bags of these in stores, but I never have the guts to actually buy them. Because I'm afraid I'll like them? Because it would be a total waste of a dollar? I'm not sure. But if I did, I'd get the garlic bread ones!
